Tip of the Week: Paper Ticket Stock Storage and Handling

Although paper ticket stock is used less frequently than in the past, please remember that Automated Ticket and Boarding Pass (ATB) stock is considered to be a document with financial value. ATB stock should be stored with the same care that you would use with cash or other negotiable instruments.

Please see Section 10.4 of the Industry Agents' Handbook for instructions on how to store and handle ATB documents. This paper stock is sensitive to environmental conditions and should be stored with care. Proper handling will reduce the possibility of printer performance issues, such as a document jam or a printer misfeed.

Here are a few tips to help ensure successful use of ATB documents:

  1. Fan through the ATB stock prior to loading a new box into the printer to help prevent ticket jams.
  2. Always store boxes of ATB stock with the red arrows pointing up per the instructions on the box.
  3. Use all older shipments of ATB stock prior to using new shipments of stock to preserve the numbering sequence.
  4. In order to prevent document damage, please follow these guidelines:
    1. Storage temperatures should remain constant. Do not store at temperatures colder than 40 degrees Fahrenheit or hotter than 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
    2. Never expose ATB stock to prolonged sunlight or extreme humidity.
