Memorial Day Weekend – Fraud Alert

Fraudsters are unusually active during holiday weekends. Recently, there have been a number of phishing emails delivered enticing readers to open an attachment. You may believe it is real, but it is not! Advise everyone who has access to the GDS not to open attachments or log into the GDS through an email. You may also check with your GDS to see if it has a program to "turn off your ticketing" (note that this type of program is different than simply turning off the printer) when your agency is closed (evenings, weekends and holidays).

Example of a current phishing email that entices the reader to open an attachment.

Memorial Day Weekend - Fraud Alert

Malware, spyware and viruses are malicious software that installed on your PC or network without your knowledge or consent. Each is designed to either damage or take control of your computer or network. Often the malicious software gathers personal or business information using key logger malware to obtain such things as GDS logins and passwords, and then sends the information to the criminal’s computers. Malware, spyware and viruses change all the time, so you need to implement appropriate and updated procedures and systems to prevent unauthorized access to your PCs and networks.

What should you do now?

  • Determine if your GDS has a program to “turn off your ticketing” when your agency is closed; and if they do, implement that program before the holiday.
  • Advise staff of the current and past phishing emails and remind them not to click links, open attachments or log into the GDS through an email.
  • Implement a layered approach to prevent unauthorized access to your PCs and network:
    • Use and monitor a firewall
    • Regularly use active and updated malware, spyware and virus protection
    • Update your operating systems with current security updates
    • Update applications with all current security patches
    • Enable anti-phishing ability through your browser

What should you do during the upcoming holiday weekend?

  • Carefully monitor your booking and ticketing in your GDS on the weekend. If you find unauthorized/stolen tickets or bookings, immediately attempt to void them through the GDS.
  • Contact your GDS for further instructions. Immediately change the password of the employee or IC whose credentials were used to issue the tickets.
  • If you find unauthorized/stolen tickets/bookings during the holiday weekend, provide the details to ARC's Fraud Prevention team at fifp@arccorp.com or 855-358-0393, and you will be contacted by the next business day with important follow-up information.

Examples of past phishing emails and other valuable information can be found on ARC's Fraud Prevention page: www.arccorp.com/fraudprevention.

If you believe you have received a phishing email, please forward the email to fifp@arccorp.com with the subject: Possible Phishing Email.

Communication of Your Annual Review of Financial Instrument Result

A change has been made to provide agencies with paperless and timelier information about their annual Financial Instrument reviews.

Effective Thursday, May 14, 2015, the method of communicating to agencies on the outcome of the annual review of their Financial Instrument coverage has changed. Prior to May 14, a letter indicating the outcome (no change, decrease or increase in Financial Instrument requirement) was mailed via the U.S. Postal Service to the physical address that ARC has on file.

Past May 14, an email with an attached letter indicating the outcome of the annual review of an agency's Financial Instrument will be sent to the primary My ARC administrator of the agency. In case the recipient does not want to open the attachment due to security concerns, they will also be able to view the letter by logging into their My ARC account.

Tip of the Week: Updating Your Address

You can submit an address change (major or minor) electronically through the My ARC Accreditation Tool, accessible via your My ARC toolbox.

A major address change constitutes, for example, moving to a new building. A minor address change constitutes a move within the same building, such as changing floors or suites.

Please note that only primary administrator user IDs automatically have access to the Accreditation Tool. Any other types of user IDs must request access to the Accreditation Tool from a primary administrator.

To complete an address change, please follow these instructions:

  1. Log in to My ARC.
  2. Under “Tools,” select “Accreditation” (ensure that your pop-up blocker is disabled).
  3. On the main “Account Summary” page, click on “New Request,” which is located at the bottom left-hand corner of the page.
  4. Select “Address” as the type of request from the drop-down menu.
  5. Provide the requested information on each tab and then click “Next.”
  6. When you reach the “Sections” tab, click on the “Address Change” section to input the updated information.
