Phishing Emails Appearing to be from a Tour Company and a GDS

The example below is being sent daily to travel agents and independent contractors. The emails contain different senders' identities and refer to future travel reservations in the subject line.

View an example here. (Note that you must be logged into My ARC.)

What should you do with this information?

  1. Show this example of a phishing email to everyone, including full- and part-time staff, independent contractors and sub-agents.
  2. Ask every employee, or outside sales staff if they received this type of email and if they clicked the link and logged into the GDS through the email. If so, take immediate action to change everyone's passwords, and refer to your GDS's website for additional instructions.
  3. Advise staff to never click on a link and confirm/enter a GDS login ID or password through an email - always go directly to your GDS's known website.
  4. If the agency's GDS administrator's credentials were compromised, check to see if new user accounts have been created or if any user's email account information has been altered. (Always delete unknown or former user accounts immediately)
  5. Monitor your agency's ticketing daily, including weekends and holidays, and if you suspect unauthorized ticketing or access, immediately:
    • Void the ticket(s) through your GDS to obtain an ESAC code.
    • Notify affected carriers of the unauthorized/stolen tickets.
    • Cancel the PNR (or return segments if the outbound leg has been used).
    • Contact your GDS to report compromised IDs, PCCs, or passwords, and ask for immediate assistance to prevent additional unauthorized activity.
    • Contact ARC's fraud prevention team at fifp@arccorp.com or ARC's new toll free number (855) 358-0393 for important follow-up instructions.

More on current schemes, fraud prevention, and credit card transaction red flags can be found here. ARC will send more examples of suspect emails in the future to keep you informed of the latest fraud attempts. Don't forget to follow us on Twitter!

Tip of the Week: BOS Scheduled Tables

Are you tired of needing to submit Back Office Section (BOS) file requests every morning? A BOS scheduled table may be the answer to help reduce your daily morning to-do list.

Scheduled tables are used to automatically process reports that target specific activity by day of the week for the current or previous PED, or by specific transaction type such as refunds or voids. Scheduled tables may be used to:

  • Monitor specific activity for one location, all locations or by a region
  • Process files for the current or previous PED on any day of the week
  • Exclude unwanted information

IAR processing allows a sale report to be authorized with errors. These errors roll to the next open sales report. As a result, there is the potential that the IAR sales report and an agent's BOS will not reconcile.

Information on how to create a scheduled table can be found in the BOS on the IAR Help page here. If you need additional assistance, please contact the Customer Care Center at (855) 816-8003 or ccchelp@arccorp.com. We'd be happy to walk you through the process.

Please distribute the ARC TAC among staff and colleagues.
