Exhaustion of Alpha-Only Tax Codes

Tax codes for airline ticket sales have historically been assigned two-character alphabetic codes. But the industry's supply of these codes is near exhaustion, which means that IATA will begin assigning alphanumeric codes to new taxes. There is only a very small supply of alpha-only tax codes available.

By June 30, 2012, all systems must be able to accept and process new alphanumeric tax codes.
All ARC systems (including IAR and BOS) are prepared to receive, process, and output alphanumeric tax codes. We always want to keep you aware developments that might have potential impacts on your business.


Tip of the Week: Split Payment Refunds and Conjunctive Refunds

One of the key points in correctly completing split payment refunds and conjunctive partial refunds is separating or dividing the coupons. Note that there is no single right or wrong way to separate the coupons. Here are possible ways to separate the coupons.

Split payment of 4 coupons - Cash (Coupons 1 2), Credit (Coupons 3 4)
Split payment of 6 coupons - Cash (Coupons 1 2) and (Coupon 1), Credit (Coupons 3 4) and (Coupon 2)

For a conjunctive partial refund for a coupon on both tickets:

  1. Select the coupon for the primary ticket and the conjunctive ticket.
  2. Enter the coupon in the coupon box in IAR.

If only a coupon for the conjunctive ticket is being refunded:

  1. Select a partial refund entering only the conjunctive ticket number.
  2. Enter the appropriate coupon number to be refunded.
